Student Volunteers

Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley take the health & safety of our members, staff, volunteers, and community as our number one priority. Due to the close contact our volunteers may have with our members, we ask all volunteers to complete the following before beginning their volunteer journey:

Background Checks:

Due to the nature of our work and the close proximity of our volunteers working with children, they are all background checked and fingerprinted through the Department of Justice (DOJ) to ensure there are no previous issues when working with youth. Fingerprints are completed once and track via the DOJ. In addition, a yearly online check is conducted.

Once your volunteer application has been received you will be sent the needed documentation and information to complete both background checks.

Mandated Reporter Training:

Every volunteer is required to complete and pass the mandated reporter training provided by the California Department of Social Services before starting. This training allows our volunteers to better recognize child abuse and neglect and gives them the knowledge and skills to help them carry out their responsibilities. Those who have recently completed a mandated reporter training may submit a completion certificate.

The training can be found: https://mandatedreporterca.com/training/volunteer

COVID Safety:

To comply with current health orders from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local & state health authorities when working with youth, we require all volunteers to be fully vaccinated and to provide a copy of their vaccination card.

Volunteer Handbook:

This Volunteer Handbook is an important document intended to help volunteers become acquainted with Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley (BGCSV). This document is intended to provide guidelines and expectations when volunteering at BGCSV.

Once you have completed your review of the handbook you will be asked to sign the Code of Conduct/Handbook Acknowledgement page which outlines a handful of the main points from the handbook.

All volunteers will be asked to attend a volunteer orientation where they tour the Clubhouse and hear general housekeeping items, such as where the bathrooms are, who to contact while you’re at the club if necessary, location of first aid supplies, and much more.  We will also take time to review a few key points of the handbook and answer any questions.

We look forward to you taking the time to volunteer with us.  We couldn’t serve the youth in the valley without you.
